The son of two Freudian psychoanalysts, DAVID RHODES’ passion for theater ignited at age five when his parents took him to see Broadway’s Man of La Mancha starring Richard Kiley and Joan Diener. “When the stairs descended from the ceiling, I swore all of medieval Spain was looming above. I wanted to be on that stage and live in that magical world.”

At age eleven, David began his career playing Cerberus the Three-Headed Dog in The Myth of Persephone at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Rodgers Auditorium, then touring the Straw Hat Summer Theater Circuit playing Oliver in Oliver! At nineteen, David’s career began in earnest when he played Alan Strang in the first regional production of Equus.

David trained at Carnegie Mellon and acquired a BA in Theatre / Dance from Wesleyan University. He then studied at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art — the only American accepted from over two thousand U.S. applicants into LAMDA’s prestigious three-year acting course. His instructors included luminaries like Sir Patrick Stewart, Dame Janet Suzman, and Colin Cook, the avant garde director of the original London production of The Rocky Horror Show.

RESUME

Returning to his Manhattanite roots in New York, he spent 13 years with The Wynn Handman Studio — where he met his wife. His Off-Broadway solo show, Rites of Privacy, garnered critical acclaim, heralded by The New York Times as “A Moving Revelation” which then transferred to London’s New End Theatre where Time Out London named him a Critics’ Choice.
